Meric Canatan Illustration and Collage

An exclusive for Fucking Young! Online, this collage story, Inflorescence was created by freelance fashion designer and illustrator Meric Canatan and photographer Olgaç Bozalp, both based in London.

Born in Ankara, Turkey, Meric Canatan studied Fine Arts at Ankara Anatolian High School. As a young student she gained recognition through national and international art competitions and exhibitions. She went on to study Textile and Fashion Design at Mimar Sinan University where she graduated with a BA in 2012. During her student years Meric not only carried on taking part in art projects, but also she launched the accessories brand Birdy with friend Fatos Erhuy. In 2010, the last years of her university programme, Meric took part in an Erasmus Student exchange programme studying Decoration at Roma Arts Academy.

Since graduating Meric has worked as a fashion and accessories design assistant and a freelance illustrator and an art director. Her collages and illustrations were first recognized by then newly-established Dash Magazine. In addition to Dash Magazine and Fucking Young! Online; her work has featured in L’officiel Hommes Turkey, This is Paper, Trendland and Vogue Turkey.
